Diabetes and Health Insurance Cost
Data shows in America 10% of health insurance is paid for diabetes treatments. The average medical cost of regular people is about $4,700 per year. However, the average cost for diabetic was over $11,000. Such a big difference caught my attention because in my mind we have no medicine to cure diabetes up to today. So under what kind of circumstance money was spent.
Beside genetic weaknesses reason of diabetes usually is related to the food we eat. Overeat, particular over eat too much sugar and starch can cause diabetes. If we control our diet and do more exercises diabetes can be improved. We might not cured full of it but we can at least keep our body’s function.
In another word the only person who can help diabetics are patients themselves. If they eat right they can hang there without cost that much health insurance fund. If they don’t control their diet that means they don’t care about their health. There for they are not deserve to be helped by health insurance fund. Either way let diabetics have unlimited treatment is not appropriately.
Set up health insurance quota is very important in case like this. Diabetics will control their diet carefully for their quota can be used up. They might give up treatments that are without curing effects. Right now we let them spend funds in the way they want to spend. It looks like it would be their lost if insurance companies are willing to pay the doctor fee and they don’t see the doctors. Doctors of course hope to collect as much money as they can. In the picture our doors are wide opened and real money, dollars by dollars, are being paid to so call diabetes treatments that actually have no curing effect.
Doctors usually recommend their patients to take the most expenses service. One of my friends told me that many years ago he had diabetes. Doctors convinced him to cut his leg or he would have troubles. He refused to do it no matter what. His legs carry him around for more 10 years after that. He was fine till the day he talked to me. He said he cannot imagine what kind of life quality he would have if he lost his leg.
It is said there is 15 million diabetics in the United States and another thirty to fifty million people are pre-diabetics. If every year each of them spent $6,000 more health insurance than the regular people the total extra cost will be 400 billion dollars. If in average they have diabetes for 10 years the total extra cost will be 4 trillion dollars. For that huge amount of money we have reason to reevaluate our insurance policies or our economic will collapse because the overload of our insurance premiums.
People might say I talking all these because my health is good. Actually my blood sugar is higher than normal as well and I did not control diet as what I suppose to do. However, I still believe it is no body else but my duty to take care of my health. We have no right to enjoy food and let the society take care of our obese.
