Why doesn’t NATO tell Libya Rebels to Stop?

On April 11, 2011, the African Union initiated a peace deal in Libya. Their deal was accepted by Muammar Gaddafi but was rejected by the rebels. Rebels simply refused any negotiation unless Gaddafi steps down. Rebels took that position without any grounds. They have no weapon and their people have no experience of fighting. They can survive up to today because of NATO bombing Libya and those bombs kill civilians as well. Why doesn’t NATO tell the Libyan rebels to stop fighting at this critical moment?
Gaddafi had promised that if NATO stops bombing he will prepare a election within six months.

NATO conducts its military operations in the name of protecting civilians. Everybody in Libya is a civilian. If NATO really cares about people’s lives they should make the rebels accept the peace deal and ask for a real election in Libya. Gaddafi had promised that he would like to do any political reforms. To avoid a civil war in Libya we should give Gaddafi a chance instead of fighting with him. Both NATO and the rebels don’t take the position because they care about power more and behind the power there is oil.

Rebels claim that they are fighting against a dictatorship and for that reason they get support from the Western powers. They say they will conduct democracy but who can guaranty that rebels will treat Gaddafi’s supporters fairly in case they have the power. Why don’t rebels accept the peace deal and beat Gaddafi through an election that can tell who represents the majority.

Again rebels had no any ground to fight with Gaddafi and still reject negotiations. They relied upon NATO’s bombs that killed civilians and they accused NATO of not doing enough. They even claimed that if NATO helped them to get the power they would let foreigners control the oil resources of Libya. Just from their behavior I can tell that they are not welcomed by Libyans. They just say that they represent the majority and NATO simply believes what they say. If they do represent the majority why don’t they accept a peace deal and request an election? Why doesn’t NATO stop rebels from fighting to save the civilian’s lives? Doesn’t NATO know that giving rebels weapons to support a civil war might cause thousands of civilians to die? People who reject peaceful talk are the killers in this picture. Killers are killers. Being against dictatorship and practicing democracy doesn’t make killers look alright.

If without the help from NATO, Gaddafi would be the winner in Libya yet he accepted the peace deal. Why don’t the rebels do the same? Ignoring the fact that rebels reject peace French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said “It is not acceptable that Misrate is still under fire and being bombarded by Gaddafi’s troops” If rebels accepted the peace deal proposed by the African Union how come they were attacked continually? France has big investments in Libya that makes us doubt the role it played in the beginning. I am surprised that France has such a great influence on the other countries. Now, instead of pushing a fare election in Libya, 16 countries from Europe and the Middle East-as well the United Nations- said Gaddafi must go.

Who should be the leader of Libyans then? The leader of the rebels? Who is the leader of the rebels? As I know there are different parties in the rebels and they fight each other for the power. If I am a Libyan I will be uncomfortable to see my government is controlled by a party in which I don’t know the background of its leaders. Those leaders once claimed that they will give Libya’s oil resources to the foreigners who help them to get the power. I believe many Libyans think the same way that I think. Some Western powers and Libya rebels know that they cannot win in an election. That is why rebels reject negotiation and simply said that Gaddafi must go. Again in this picture who rejects peace talks and who should take the responsibility for the deaths in the fighting? It is funny that rebels are rejecting the peace talks and they are supported by 16 countries. Do those 16 countries have power to say Gaddafi must go? Do they have the right to bomb Libya in the name of protecting civilians and kill civilians meanwhile? I doubt it.
