A Lesson from Roit in London

August 12th, 2011  / Author: Pia Fields

On 6th of August 2011, a peaceful protest over a police shooting turned violent in London. Within three days it became riot that caused damage for 130 billion dollars for British. Buildings and cars were burned out. Stores were robbed. During that time armored vehicles and convoys of police vans backed up 16,000 officers on duty. 1,200 people were arrested across the country including 800 in London.

The whole thing started from a black young man was killed by policemen in London’s Tottenham neighborhood. I was shock when I saw the victim’s cheerful good looking face in the website. I can’t imagine such a young guy deserve to be killed. Maybe also for that reason people felt upset for the accident. They gathered outside of police building requested for an explanation. It is said for a few hours police ignored those people totally. The peaceful protest turned to be riot when a girl was knocked down in the floor and was bit up by the policemen. The girl threw stone to the policemen for expressing her anger. It just like the street vendor in Tunis set fire on him after being humiliated by policeman, a butterfly effect was created.

British government now has the headache of handling riot in the street like the other countries have. They are bombing Libya for Gadaffi didn’t treat the violence protesters nicely. It is time for them to show the world how a democracy country handles riots in real life. After riots happen some people robbed stores to get what they want–new sneakers, bikes, and electronics and leather goods. Fires were seen in here and there in the street. There were obviously crimes that need to be fight back.

The problem is that should British government ignore the real reasons of riot and simply considered that were crimes? Obviously police fail handling things caused the riot. The conflicts actually involve with issues of poverty, human rights because most of rioters are blacks. They complain that they were discriminated and humiliated in British all these years. They have no jobs and the benefits are cut now. As foreigners they immigrated to the other people’s homeland, make a living there and enjoy the benefit there. Not like the Whites in the United States who were immigrants some years ago British people have reason to complain just like the killer from Norway Anders Breirik thought. I can imagine that British policemen don’t like to the blacks and give them troubles once a while. British should has shut its door in the very beginning. Now it is little bit late. Situation maybe is worse for Gaddafi threatens to let more blacks run to the Europe since NATO is bombing Libya. Why not let more desperate refugees live in the countries that have democracy and respect human right.

Troubles that cause by immigrants are much serious than what Western countries realized. Handful of youth guys who got no trainings gave such big troubles to the society. They flee quickly when the police came and when the police left they regroup again. As a democracy country you cannot execute them. After you releasing them they commit crimes again. You keep them in jails for their lifelong it cost money. We can’t imagine what happen if some hatful Muslins and Gaddafi supporters join the riots.

The hint is that since security systems are so lax in Western world Europeans should not make that many enemies. They should stop bombing Libya. They should learn how to compromise. They have no choice but overcome their discriminated feeling and accept those immigrants as their neighbors. Only when they treat their neighbors as what Jesus told them to do they then can have peaceful environments.

Died Before Can Go Home

August 9th, 2011  / Author: Pia Fields

In Aug 8, 2011 thirty U.S troops, most of them elite Navy SEALS, died when their helicopter was shot down by Afghan militants. War in Afghan has continued for over 10 years as of 2011. The time it lasted is longer than Vietnam War. Just a few weeks ago Obama started his plan of withdrawing troop in Afghan. These 30 soldiers died after a long time waiting and died right before they are allowed to go home. I could not help to cry when I read their pictures one by one. They are so young,so handsome and so brave. They were the most excellent group I ever saw for they all looked so unselfish. They so loved our country and those politicians send them die for nothing.

There are still 100 thousand American soldiers in Afghan. Our beginning goal is to catch bin Latin. Ten years ago Taliban agreed to send bin Latin to United Nation but not to U.S. and we reject the deal. In the name of defending our homeland we started a long time war in Afghan. A few thousand soldiers died since then and after bin Latin was killed in Pakistan not in Afghan we are till stay in that country. We still make more our young lives died for nothing. Obama said “These men and women put their lives on the line for the values that bind us together as a nation.” All these are empty talks! What are our values? Attack anyone who we believe as our enemy? Launch war in the others’ homelands to protect ours? We could not bind as a nation without those young lives dying?

Pentagon spokesman telling us that “we still have the Taliban on the run”. How those running Taliban threaten our homeland? We can never stop their running, can we? Taliban did nothing on 9.11. We consider they are our enemy because they support bin Latin. In this world many people respect bin Latin, should we run after them and kill them all? Start from catching bin Latin we launch two wars. After bin Latin died we still sending our troops to die. We forget our priority goal. We just don’t know what we are doing. It is terrible to send our brave young lives to dead for no reason. Those are the people once so loved this country.

How much 15.8 trillion dollars debt equal to?

August 9th, 2011  / Author: Pia Fields

On 2nd of August 2011, A few hours before getting into default U.S government passed legislation for raising the country’s 14.3 trillion debt ceiling. It allows Obama to make another 2.1 trillion dollars debt that is enough for him to finish his presidency in 2012. That means in November 2011 U.S government’s debt will go up to 15.8 trillion dollars that is 100% of this country’s GPD. Meanwhile government will cut 2.4 trillion dollars spending in ten years. That also means by 2021 government’s debt will reducing 2.4 trillion dollars from the debt then.

2.1 trillion dollars debt and 2.4 trillion dollars budget cut seems are balance each other. The tricky point is that 2.1 trillion dollars debt is just enough to support about one year budget deficit and 2.4 trillion dollars budget cut is accumulate in ten years. According to this ratio, in 2021 we have to increase debt for another 15 to 21 trillion dollars and we only cut 2.4 trillion dollars debt in the period.

Feeling disappoint for that kind of budget cut Standard & Poor, downgrade U.S government’s credit rating. As a result, stock index in the world went down for more than 10% within one week. It looks like that rating services were without merciful when doing so. In this world only a few develop countries have debt equal to GDP. Italy’s has to pay more than 6% rate for their bonds as their debt is over 110% of their GDP. America pays less than 3% interest for their bonds when their debt ratio is 100% of their GDP. At this point we can’t say that rating services are not nice to the U.S government.

How much 15.8 trillion dollars equal to? Usually 5% net profit is business’s reasonable return. (In China the return is as low as 1.5%) GDP represent the total dollars amount that involve in a country’s economic activities. Assume that our 15 trillion dollars GDP has 5% net profit. If we have to pay what the Italy government pays for their debt, the 5% net profit we get from our GDP will be just enough to pay off the interest for our bonds. That means 15.8 trillion dollars debt can make us work from generation to generation for just pay the interests but never pay off the principle, unless we sell our land and assets. We are broken! That doesn’t mean we have no room to turn around. Our defense budget is 663.8 billion dollars in 2010 when our homeland is threaten by no country in this world. It means defense budget is unnecessary in this country. We once were attacked by the terrorists because we support Israel. If we change our stander we can get rid of the trouble in overnight.

Our Medicare and Medicaid cost combine together is close to 1.5 trillion dollars and that is 5.5% of our GDP. However, this kind of cost couldn’t make Americans’ live longer than people from the other developed countries. It means high percentage of medical cost in this country is unnecessary as well as most home care cost and nursing cost. On whole if we cut the above budget harsh we can cut over 1 trillion dollars a year.

Cut budget is the only way to solve our debt problem. Cutting budget might result in job reducing. We can let people share jobs by reducing working hours. We can encourage retirement by providing free housing project to people who are 55 years old. Building retirement homes can be considered as government’s investment with the process of creating jobs. The above policies might result in reducing income, reducing expenditure and reducing GDP. However, it can actually increase job opportunity without creating debt. We can even arrange jobs in the farms. Government’s final goal is to give people food, shelters and joys.

A lesson from Arab Spring

August 4th, 2011  / Author: Pia Fields

In February, 2011, Arab Spring in Egypt forced its president Hosni Mubarak to step down. A military council led by the defense minister Mohamed Hussein Tantawi took over the power and promised a transition to democracy soon. After that protests in the street of Egypt were never stop, including asking for trialing Mubarak.

On 3, August 2011 Mubarak was wheeled to the court in a hospital bed. He and his two sons were accused of corruption and killing protesters. Mubarak was supported by U.S government for a few decades. He played an important role on creating connections between Arab world and Israel. Under his dictatorship majority of Egyptians were live with poverty meanwhile his family accumulated good fortune. It is obvious that if Mubarak is a bad guy, United States are the bad guys because we support the bad guy not just for three years but for thirty years.

We of course don’t want to admit that we are the bad guys. We just don’t know what our friends are doing. The lesson we should take here is to stay away from those people. Leaders we support are hated by their people. End up is we spent money and get no credit. Conflicts we created or involved wasting taxpayors’ money and benefited the warmongers only. If we have to say something good about Obama we should say Obama switch our priority task from supporting Israel, anti- terrorists to support democracy.

It is obviously that Muslim Brother is approaching to the power in Egypt. However, if we gave up Mubarak we should not spent 300 billion dollars to support the government he left behind. It has no point to waste money there. Let Egyptians in the street choose their governor, either Muslim or Christian. If new leaders doing well we feel happy for them. If those people are being led to the hell they deserve because that is their choice.

Since we so care about democracy we should let they enjoy their democracy all the way to end. We don’t have to worry about dealing with Muslim governments. If they increase the price of the oil we will increase the price of everything, simply trade products with products. As a big country that has resource and all these land we don’t have to worry at all.

At this moment all we should care is reducing our debt and cut the military budget. Military budget is unnecessary comparing with all the other budgets because in this world no country will attack us. Americans’ benefits are not tie up with countries in the Middle East or in Asia. If we spend every penny on our own business our benefit will be protected well enough. If we don’t create debt and keep dollars in a decent rate we will protect the whole world well enough. Mind our own business is a lesson that we should take in Arab Spring.

Libya Rebel’s chief commander was killed by his people

August 3rd, 2011  / Author: Pia Fields

Military commander of Libya rebel, Gen Abdel Fattah Younes was assassinated on 29, July 2011. Internal’s attention for this interesting news was insignificant. NATO made no comment when the world question about the honest of Libya rebels.

Rebels claimed that Younes was executed by agent of Gaddafi but made no opening accuse for that. They announce that the head of the group of men who killed Younes had been captured. However, they didn’t disclosed where the attack took place, where the bodies were found and not any detail as well.

In 2, August 2011, Younes’ son demanded an open investigation and speedy trials for the murders. They believe murders are the “individuals among us”.

Some reports said that Yones and two aides had been arrested earlier on Thursday near Libya’s eastern front. Yones’ body had been shot and burned. He was buried before the investigation was started. Yones was a former interior minister of Gaddafi’s regime since 1969. He joined the rebels’ uprising in February, 2011 and was point as the chief military commander in April. If he still had connection with Gaddafi and that was the reason he was killed why rebels were allowed to spent three days to mourn him.

If he was executed by agents of Gaddafi why didn’t we see rebel use that as an excuse to aggravate anger? Why don’t we see they accuse Gaddafi seriously in front of the whole world immediately? As a matter of a fact, according to the report from BBC, after hearing the death news, gunmen entered the grounds of the hotel in the eastern city of Benghazi where the new leader Jalil was speaking and fired into the air.

In a war the chief military commander usually is the most important person. Now such a person was killed by his people — rebels so easily and those rebels are firmly supported by NATO. Syrian troops kill much more people than Gaddafi and we don’t see NATO protect civilians there. We only see NATO drops bombs in Libya desperately. It makes us feel that NATO actually doesn’t know who they are supporting since rebels changed their leaders quickly without notifying third party. That is the funniest part of actions that NATO takes.

According to the report by BBC, South Africa’s ambassador to the UN on Thursday warned that supporters of the rebels were in danger of violating UN Sanctions and criticized calls by Western government for Col Gaddafi to stand down.
