Who can stand his homeland to be bombed?
June 21st, 2011 / Author: Pia FieldsOn June 19th 2011, NATO warplanes struck a residential neighborhood in Libya and killed 9 civilians included two children. In front of a camera a senior Libyan pointed at his home that was half blown apart and said: “Who can stand his own country being bombed like that?” I caught the scenery and comment in a Chinese news channel but did not find that in an American newspaper. That question from an ordinary individual expressed most Libyans’ anger and reflects their will: rebels who invited foreigners to bomb their own country will not be accepted by Libyans.
On the 20th of June, one day later, NATO again targeted a large family compound belonging to al-Hamidi, a close military officer of Gaddafi and killed at least 15 people. Three children were among those killed and two of them were al-Hamidi’s grandchildren.
From March 19 to June 20th 2011, NATO has launched 11,500 strikes and killed 856 civilians in Tripoli. France, Britain and the United States are the countries who started the strike under a United Nations resolution to protect civilians. During that time Gaddafi asked for a ceasefire and suggested holding elections in his country. He promised that if he lost he would step down. His proposals were rejected by the rebels. Due to the help of NATO the rebels have controlled one third of Libya where most of Libya’s oil installations are. Libya accused NATO of aggression in Libya and committing “crimes against humanity”.
NATO admitted that the killing occurred in 19th June was by mistake because of “a weapon system failure”. They meanwhile accused Gaddafi of using mosques and children’s parks as shields. IN NATO’s opinion Gaddafi should sit somewhere waiting to be killed. He should be accused if he doesn’t co-operate. We all know that even animals refuse to be killed. It is obvious that for saving his life Gaddafi will hide in hospitals, hotels with children and women. NATO’s accusing make me feel that NATO will bomb everwhere Gaddafi hide and held him to the responsible. NATO changes UN’ s Mission from protecting civilians to hunting Gaddafi inspide of killing civilians. U.N. makes no comment about that.
For two times NATO’s air strikes mistakenly killed some rebels. Rebels protested about that and asked for apologies. NATO refused to do it. Rebels also complained that their administration is running out of cash as NATO’s donation has not materialized. In front of the camera rebels claimed the NATO bombing of Libya was not enough. This is the comment they made: ” All of these people we talk to, all of these countries, at all these conferences, with their great grant speeches- we appreciate (them) from the political side, but in terms of finances they are a complete failure.” Having not got the power yet and relying on the others’ support rebels make complains on that way. NATO will unable to control the situation when rebels get into power because rebels are the people who might apply whatever means to meet their goal such as inviting foreigners to bomb their homeland. Just for that reason the rebels will never win an election in Libya. Not through an election but by using dirty tricks to support the wrong people NATO will lose as well. Their lose will be huge this time because they will lose their masks of democracy.
